Hi folks

Is it possible to suspend to disk instead of suspend to ram?

openelec ~ $ cat /proc/acpi/wakeup
Device S-state Status Sysfs node
P0P8 S4 *disabled pci:0000:00:1e.0
USB0 S3 *enabled pci:0000:00:1d.0
USB1 S3 *enabled pci:0000:00:1d.1
USB3 S3 *enabled pci:0000:00:1d.3
USB7 S3 *enabled pci:0000:00:1d.7
RP01 S4 *disabled pci:0000:00:1c.0
PXSX S4 *enabled pci:0000:01:00.0
RP02 S4 *disabled pci:0000:00:1c.1
PXSX S4 *disabled pci:0000:02:00.0
RP03 S4 *disabled pci:0000:00:1c.2
PXSX S4 *enabled pci:0000:03:00.0
RP04 S4 *disabled pci:0000:00:1c.3
PXSX S4 *disabled pci:0000:04:00.0
USB2 S3 *enabled pci:0000:00:1d.2
PWRB S3 *enabled

suspend to disk is S4, so it is possible?

what i have to do?
is ist possible to have in shutdown menu a button "Suspend to Ram" AND button "Suspend to Disk"

Background:
i have enabled sabnzb and boot times are now to big.
without sabnzb boottimes are 10sec => no reason not to boot:-)
but with sabnzb suspend to disk would be faster then boot

root / # cat /sys/power/state
standby mem

so what i'm missing is "disk"
i have read that we need a swap partition for that..right?

root / # df -h
Filesystem Size Used Available Use% Mounted on
none 499.3M 280.0K 499.0M 0% /dev
/dev/sda1 177.0M 128.8M 48.2M 73% /flash
/dev/sda2 930.4G 33.5G 896.9G 4% /storage
/dev/loop0 115.5M 115.5M 0 100% /
none 501.0M 0 501.0M 0% /dev/shm

what i have to do next?

create a swap partition or can i use /dev/shm ? how do i that..

(i have installed 2GB RAM, so i have to resize it at least?)

thanx for helping :-)

To use suspend to ram you indeed need a swap partiton. But OE is also targeted at installs on USB/SD/SSD, where you don't want swap, and certainly not a big one. Couple that with the fact that OE boots very fast (without sabnzbd) i doubt support for suspend to ram will be a feature, there aren't much use-cases for it.

Using /dev/shm for swap/suspend to disk is useless, since shm is a ramdisk, so you would end up with a suspend to ramdisk, basically the same as suspend to ram :P

i'm not sure if understand it.

i'm intrested in suspend to DISK.

SAME Machine (zbox ID80, 2GB ram, 1TB HDD)
My winXP-htpc resume from suspend2disk state 2X FASTER! than booting openeelc (clean install, NO sabnzb!).

that's nothing i want to live with :-)

so i would like to setup suspend 2 disk for openelec too..i expect that would be faster than booting openelec!?

so, somebody has done a setup with suspend 2 disk?

why nobody like the suspend2disk feature, also on windows..people like booting, i have never understand why they like to wait, maybe its a "ritual" thing..
