Thanks Chewitt. Are the installer images still valid as I notice that was written quite a while ago.

Ok, seem to be having an issue. I boot the atv off the USB and i get the openelec logo and thats it, nothing happens after that. What have i doing/have i done wrong?

Edit: Sussed it, it was my pc not creating the image properly. I can now boot from the USB. I will try the other image tomorrow which i assume wipes the apple software off the hdd and install openelec to it? One thing though, when you tell xbmc to shutdown, is it supposed to turn the atv off?

There is no power management hardware capability in the mk1 AppleTV and XBMC is not quite clever enough to hide "shutdown" from the power menus. It will stop the OS from running but the hardware cannot be truly turned off without pulling the power cord.

install-hdd puts OpenELEC on the internal drive (wipes the Apple OS)
install-usb runs OpenELEC from the USB drive

Thanks Chewitt,

You've been a great help. I've used XBMC before on a pc and loved it but an atv and openelec is all new to me.

Fantastic support. A*
