New user here. Love OpenELEC so far and it's very compatible with the formats I have. I do need a bit of help.

I currently have my Pi powered by my provider's set-top box and it's on 24/7. I recently learned that the build has a SSH terminal, which is good for what I need. The only thing is that I haven't been able to find the common commands to send WoL packets to other computers on my LAN and noticed that Busybox wasn't compiled with it. So, my question is: is there a way to send WoL signals thru build r11439 and if not, how do I add a command or package to be able to do so? Or is there a way to add it to the source and rebuild? I don't think the XBMC addon for WoL is what I need. Any help is appreciated.

I'm thinking the only way to do this is going to be by installing the Advanced WOL plugin. I don't know if it has all the functionality though.

EDIT: yes it is what you are looking for. though I don't know if it will work on the pi

EDIT2: if that doesn't work then you can just use this script to send magic packets.

I do have it installed. Is there a way to get it to work on the terminal command line?

note, you can install nano via the program addons within openelec if you hate vi, just make sure to reboot after installing.

If you are wanting to send WOL packets when it boots we can setup a autostart.sh script to run a boot time, then depending on what you want to do we can work on it.

i think i found it actually... wouldn't it be editing "ROOT_PASSWORD" in /OpenELEC.tv/projects/RPi/options ?

Just wondered with WoL, can you get XBMC to run other programs (such as WoL), on other events other than start up.

The reason I ask, is that my Pi is powered by my TV, so turns on whenever the TV turns on. Obviously I won't always be wanting to use the Pi (PVR, Xbox, BD, TV, etc). So I would like to set a WoL command to be sent to the NAS when I press a command on my remote (in my case using web interface on mobile, not an IR remote).

I know it's not an rPi specific question, but would be doing it on the pi in this instance (I use WoL to wake up my other XBMC install anyways, which sends a WoL to the NAS).

Yes, gunja99 you can do this.

try and get WOL working via command line first, then message me here or in IRC if you need help setting it up. You could start a new thread about it also.
