Hi,

I know the OpenELEC development is driven by its community and developers spent their free time contributing to this project (like most other OSS projects), but this has to get out and I am posting this here in the hope to get a little more attention to my problem.

In may I got my Xtreamer Ultra and was quite happy to discover a custom build of OpenELEC provided for it by vpeter/Ultraman. I have never heard bevore of OpenELEC and it worked quite good from the start on, providing almost everything one can whish for a HTPC. In fact I recommended it also to quite a lot of friends, and spoke to a writer of the german Linux Magazin to it (but a different one that wrote the article at last, not to say that it is achievement this all to you and your achievements).

A few weeks ago my wireless usb stick broke down and to save me from hassels I bought one listed as supported on the homepage (TP-Link TL-WN772N openelec.tv/find-help/documentation/supp...s/item/157-tl-wn722n) only to discover that it wasnt recocnized at all by my installation. So I immediately did a post in "hardware support" and only got a reply because I loggend into IRC asking for direct help (openelec.tv/forum/27-hardware-support/13...ra-tp-link-tl-wn722n). About a week later I also did a posting in "feature suggestions" where I have no reply till now (openelec.tv/forum/19-feature-suggestions...or-tp-link-tl-wn722n).

The problem is that the driver seems to have been included in the 2.6.x kernel but left out of the 3.x kernel. What makes me somehow "angry" is the fact that the stick is still listed as supported hardware, letting possibly run even more people in the same problem that I have.

Currently I am brigding my wireless network to a wired nethwork through my laptop, which can only be seen as a workaround but I am hoping to see a fix of this problem soon.

Regards Felix

Thanks for reporting this. I see your problem here, and it's a valid point. I will look into this and hopefully we will find a better way to maintain the supported hardware list.

As for the wireless driver. I'm sure it'll be re-added soon as ultraman found what firmware is needed. Just give it some time, V1 was just released and it has put some extra pressure on the forum. So a few posts may take longer to answer.

Maybe a wiki would be a good solution for this together with a template containing information on when the stick was last tested and with which version.

Dokuwiki can quite easily be integrated in Joomla with the JFusion extension. Dokuwiki also supports templates easing the entering of new hardware.

Wiki sounds good in theory but in reality only a handful of users will submit.

What we really need is a hardware reporting addon where users can fill in some details and submit dmesg/lsmod etc with some human comments on what the kit is

We have looked into the possibility of a Wiki, but it would be primarily staff who would update the Wiki, so it wouldn't really provide any benefit over adding information to the site as we currently do.

We do ask that users create a post in this forum if they've discovered hardware that works and isn't already on our site and many already have. We do strive to keep the hardware lists as up-to-date as possible, but without users contributing information on working hardware our hands are tied; the staff only have a limited amount of hardware we can test with.
