NOTE: All credits go to xhbl (and all who helped) from xbmc.org, they are the ones who made this possible!

In my process getting dual audio support found here forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?tid=86038 to work with OpenELEC i ran into some problems creating the correct patch file.

With the help from ultraman / vpeter on IRC we now have a working patch file to add dual audio support in latest development build which uses XBMC 11.0.1 from OpenELEC.

In short how it's done:
Get a copy of XBMC 11.0 stable.
Convert modified files to UNIX format, very important because i failed there.
Replace modified files in XBMC 11.0 stable.
Make patch.

Apply same patch on XBMC 11.0.1
For problematic files change the target files by hand and make patch only for this file and copy back to original patch.
And the result is the attached patch file.

Place this file in the directory patches from the corresponding OpenELEC version you want before compiling.
For example: OpenELEC.tv/packages/mediacenter/xbmc-pvr/patches

Hi,
Thank you for the patch. I still do not understand why it is not part of xbmc/OE by default, but hey... I do not understand everything :)

I'll try to compile the iso with the patch.

OpenELEC is an official XBMC distribution containing official XBMC code.

Dual audio is not supported by XBMC as they probably wont ever support it because AE is around the corner deprecating it.

@LoloMc, it's not a iso your going to make.

Got some precompiled builds here www.dropbox.com/sh/l3nkz53rhucvj09/ZDNUIHJs03

I got the precompiled builds with dual audio support and installed openelec on a hp dv5 pavillion that I have as a media center. The screen is broken so I am using it as such.

I managed to get the first audio output from hdmi to the tv. It downsamples all audio and it plays it through hdmi in my tv. I also managed to get 5.1 audio from optical output and feed it to the receiver. (The dv5 does not have an optical out so I connected a usb external Creative x-fi soundcard.)

I get multi channel audio from the optical out with no problems. But...

When I play a 2 channel file (audio or video) I get the message 'can't initialize device'. This message refers to the x-fi card. The card does not play correctly the 2 channel audio and gives me the error message.

I still here the audio from the hdmi but not from the x-fi. That is fine for movies but when I hear music I don't like it because I want to hear the music from my receiver. Now I have to take the 2 channel audio to the tv and then to the receiver. But that means that I have to keep the tv open even when I hear music.

So
1. when a 2 channel audio the hdmi plays ok and the x-fi gives an error
2. when a multi channel audio the hdmi downsamples ok and the x-fi plays ok.
How can I fix this so that the x-fi passes the 2 channel audio correctly?

When I tried to setup the asound.conf the file was locked. But I saw in the forum people who change their asound.conf. How it is done?
