How to apply patches during compilation 2 months 2 weeks ago #1

I tried to compile OpenElec from source so I could add and test a wifi driver from the get go. I'm unclear how to apply patches (as I am a relatively new to working on full embedded systems) that come up as (I'm unclear where OpenElec compilation keeps the legacy xbmc parts of kodi). I get this error when I try to compile:

Where in the build directory is the xbmc repo (if it is still used in the build process)?
