TOPIC: USB3 hard drive does not mount on Zotac AD04

USB3 hard drive does not mount on Zotac AD04 1 year 1 month ago #1

I've got an issue on the Zotac AD04 where it does not boot when a USB3 drive is plugged into the USB3 port closest to the edge of the ZBOX. The ZBOX does seem to recognise the disk as the power light is lit blue for USB3 mode. When plugged in you cannot access the Bios, it just sits at the ZOTAC ZBOX screen with B4 written in the bottom right corner.

When the drive is plugged into the second USB3 port the ZBOX boots. However disk is not mounted and it looks like its not even recognised as the power light on the disk is not lit blue or green for USB2 or 3 mode.

I have tried booting xbmc and plugging the drive into either port, however the drive is not mounted and does not show in the /media folder.

Anyone else got any suggestions to get this working as both my data drives are 2x 2TB buffalo USB3 drives.

I'm currently on Fusion build r10068..

I have also tried: r10254, r10332 and r10416 and I have the same issue on all builds.

How can I Set mount points at boot in OpenElec? I am now able to boot with the USB3 drives attached using the latest OpenElec Beta however the drive does not mount..

I tried to duplicate this issue on my Fusion box WITHOUT success.

My hardware:
- Foxconn NT-A3500
- 4GB of memory
- 30GB OCZ SSD
- Toshiba 1TB USB 3.0 external drive

Software:
- OE Fusion build Eden Beta 1 from FRESH INSTALL

The Foxconn has 2 USB 3.0 ports and I have booted up the machine with my external drive plugged in. No issue and no unique event from one USB 3.0 port to the next.

Suggestions...
1. See if your AD04 is on the newest firmware. Version 2K120221 according to Zotac.
2. Try a fresh install from an Eden Beta 1 install stick

Thanks for your response Bayside.

My setup is:

Zotac AD04 Fusion
4GB Corsiar 1333
64GB Runcore SSD
2x Buffalo 2TB USB3

Latest OE Beta 1 - Fresh install

I am on the latest Zotac Bios and I have now tried mutiple Bios setting and sometimes it boots but most of the time it refuses to move past the ZOTAC ZBOX splash screen on post.

Once OE has booted I can plug in my drives but the do not mount, what is the terminal command to show mounted or unmounted disks in terminal?

Well, that is frustrating!

What happens if you plug your Buffalo device into a USB 2.0 port? Does it come up and mount? I am assuming you have the Buffalo power up and turned on.

If the Buffalo's are plugged into USB 2.0 there is no problem, drives mount and ZOTAC boots without issue.

This is how im using my setup at the moment, but its not ideal, as i use my 1 of the USB3 drives as my library drive and the other as my SAB Suite download drive. If i could achieve USB3 speeds everything would be alot faster on transfer to the library

If i plug a USB2 harddrive into the USB3 plug everything is fine and ZATAC boots without issue and the USB2 drive mounts as normal.

Quite frustrating as you say.. :S
