I'm traveling with work and ~3500 miles from the laptop with the files on for the next 10 days, but from hazy memory I downloaded a 2.3.1 update image from a fileshare site and that contained all the files I needed.

FYI - I have installed the original ATV software from the smallATV.rar file that is on torrent sites, updated to the latest standard firmware, made the change to the HDMI output to RGB High, then installed Openelec Daily Build 9791 and after a good start, I now have the Pink Screen issue again.

When I first installed Openelec it looked fine, but since I have been trying to sort out a problem with the framerate output, and have been changing resolutions and framerates, after a reboot the pink screen has appeared, and now wont go away.....

So, what do I do now!?

Nobody knows why this occurs so you didn't do anything wrong and I can't tell you what to avoid doing in the future. All I can advise is restore, reset, reload OE, don't mess with the video settings so much, and if possible (if you don't need HDMI audio) use an nvidia driver build from the thread I've been running (now relocated to the development forum) as those don't trigger the issue.

I can live without HDMI audio, but I can't locate the nvidia development thread. The forum seems to be all over the shop at the moment....

If I do find the dev install files can I just update using he Kernel and system files? Reinstalling Apple OS is a real pain in the neck, and involved removing the drive from the ATV.

*edit* Found the Dev thread - openelec.tv/forum/20-development-discuss...nvidia-driver-builds

Here's a weird one. Just installed the Nano add on, and after reboot the pink screen has gone!? :huh:

It seems i found a funny Solution i have now tested on serval ATV1's:

- If you have pink tint Screen, simply start playing a *.MKV (HD Movie) and it goes and never comes back until you play around with the connections or change TV...

Could fix all tint screens with this workaround now.

@HOME 2x ATV1, 1x IOS
@LIMO 1x Intel
All running XBMC 10.1 (some with pvr patch)

Installing nano is a coincidence, it will not fix pink tint. Likewise, playing .mkv's may cure it for you, not for others. It makes no difference to my test box so it is not a generic workaround. I'll say it one more time for the record: the only proven way to remove PT is restoring the Apple OS and resetting the HDMI connection.

I would suggest making a color banner in download section:

"Set RGB High in AppleTV HDMI settings before making "Leap of faith" (upgrading to OpenElec)."

The time I upgraded I've seen this thread, but considered it's not about me :)))

I have proved this is not a permanent fix. As I did exactly that, and after changing resolution and frame rate a few times the pink screen returned.

Restoring the Apple OS and resetting the HDMI connection resolves (clears) the problem but it is not a permenent fix and has never been advertised (by me) as one. The problem can reoccur at any time (as you discovered) on any OS, even the original Apple one. Restoring and resetting is the recommended way to clear Pink Tint as it *always* works unlike the 'install nano, play an mkv file' type of advice; neither of which works on my test box.

I knew the nano thing was just a coincidence, just mentioned it as a matter of interest, not fix for anyone else.

I've now got a bigger issue of trying to play HD files and the Broadcom chip not being used. I've posted about this elsewhere.
