Hi all.
Im wondering if it possible to use the onboard audio card built into my mobo.
Its a SupremeFX III - Supreme Sound.

I am using HDMI to connect to my AV receiver, so wondering if I can set XBMC to use the onboard audio instead of the GPU.
Unless its doing this already then forget me :)

But just not 100% sure how and if this works?!

Also will the latest Beta4 have drivers for this onboard card SupremeFX III - Supreme Sound?

Thanks

I use onboard audio with my system board, but I don't use HDMI, I use the TOS/LINK.

I have however tried to use HDMI VIDEO/AUDIO from my system board and I was unable to make the sound work. What chip is built into the board? Mine is a ATI chip. Some Motherboards do not let you use HDMI Audio and the ones that do don't always push out 5.1/7.1. Some are only stereo. I would start by making sure you have the latest BIOS upadtes. Also please tell me what chipset for the system board and the video/audio you are using.

2nd: Why don't you want to use the HDMI from your video card? I would think that if it is a decent card, it would be better than the onboard HDMI.

Hi mate.

I think you got the wrong end of the stick slightly :)
I will be using a dedicated GPU (waiting for a GT 640) as my current one is broken.
So I'm using the onboard HDMI in the mean time.
But even when using the onboard, or the dedicated GPU I would like to use the onboard sound card.

So HTPC HDMI to AV Receiver (video & audio). But the Audio to be done via the onboard sound card.
The mobo is a Asus Maximus V GENE. The sound card on the board is a SupremeFX III.

Here is a silly question, does your AV reciver grab the audio from your HDMI or does it require you to push the audio back or use SPDIF?

My reciver is an HDMI reciver but it only does audio passthru. I have to us a seperate audio channel from my TV back to the reciver or stright from my video device to the reciver.

Most newer recivers and highend recivers support Audio Return Channel but the older and cheaper ones do not.

Isn't ARC (Audio Return Channel) only if you are using your TV and TV Tuner from the TV itself.
As in using aerial via TV, and getting the sound through the Surround sound system?

This should be needed if using HDMI from eg a Sky box, or HTPC.

I could be wrong but that's how I saw ARC working...

Anyway in answer to your question, I am using only HDMI, for Audio and Video.
My AMP is a Onkyo TX-NR616 and its connecting to a Sony 40EX503 TV.

So my setup, HDMI source (HTPC, or Sky Box) goes into my -> AMP, Onkyo -> then from AMP into the TV.
HTPC -> AMP -> TV
