TOPIC: 24p Audio Delay

I'm just posting for those who missed it or are unaware of it.

OpenELEC currently sets a default delay of 175ms for 24p material. This also includes 23.976 because the range is from 23-24hz.

This value has been tested on many different machines and was found to be the best option.

If you'd like to do some testing on this then see this thread, forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?tid=141646

Many high end receivers do have audio delay correction built in so this may not be needed by some. Consult your receivers documentation about this.

If for whatever reason you want to override this value just put this into advancedsettings.xml
<advancedsettings>
  <video>
    <latency>
      <delay>0</delay>
      <refresh>
        <min>23</min>
        <max>24</max>
        <delay>0</delay>
      </refresh>
    </latency>
  </video>
</advancedsettings>

After days of messing around trying to find the cause of my 24p sync issues, I'm glad I finally found this post! :P

Removing the delay by overwriting it fixed my problems, thanks.

Where do I find the advancedsettings.xml or do I need to create one? Thanks

cp /usr/share/xbmc/system/advancedsettings.xml /storage/.xbmc/userdata/
then edit the copy in /storage/.xbmc/userdata

Pardon my ignorance but can anyone tell me how I can access the xbmc folder when browsing my Openelec box on Windows? In windows explorer all I see is my Userdata folder.
Thanks

@mattchapman: we don't expose the entire folder by default (it would encourage users to f**k things up more) but you can change the default SAMBA shares list by renaming the \\confgfiles\samba.conf.sample file to samba.conf and adding the share name/path you want; the format is simple to crib/copy.

Some audio tracks in mkv files have delay informations, for example -28ms.

If I override the advancedsettings.xml with delay 0, is the audio delay information -28ms ignored by XBMC and the delay is set to 0?

So I'm comparing a Windows 7 and OpenElec build of XBMC 12.2 on an Intel NUC i3.

On the Windows 7 build my audio delay is 225ms or 200ms (can't quite decide after spending ages on it) for 24p content.

On OpenElec it's 50ms (175 is too much).

Odd??

different OS, different drivers, different XBMC .. and probably a good example of OE being more efficient at A/V processing than Windows, hence the lower delay required

I've changed the delay to 0 in the advancedsettings.xml in /userdata but it seems to have no effect at all. For 24p movies, I still have to set 175ms audio (!) delay to have sync (50Hz seems fine) . Any ideas what I've done wrong?

Why are you setting it to zero then? If you have to change the delay to 175ms then just leave it alone as 175ms delay is already built into the stock settings.

Sorry for the misunderstanding, but the stock settings are 175ms VIDEO delay. So if I leave AUDIO delay at 0, audio is 175ms ahead for 24p content (only). That's why I want to revert this stock delay. I can't see why OpenELEC seems to ignore the advancedsettings.xml

Just remove the section completely, if you leave it at 0 you are overriding the stock settings..
