TOPIC: No sound on a new Haswell system at 1080p

No sound on a new Haswell system at 1080p 3 years 2 months ago #1

Hi there,

i got a new system:
ASRock H87M Intel H87 So.1150 Dual Channel DDR3 mATX Retail
Intel Core i3 4340 2x 3.60Ghz So.1150 BOX
8GB G.Skill Ares DDR3-1600 DIMM Dual Kit

The HTPC is connected to a Pioneer vsx 827 and the receiver is connected to a Panasonic P50VT50

I installed the Intel-Build of OpenElec 3.2.0

If i set the resolution to 1920x1080 i got no sound over HDMI. At 1280x720 everything works. Does somebody can help me?
I also tried to connect the HTPC directly to the TV, the same problem.
i also used another hdmi cable, the same problem.

Greetings from germany :)

Sorry I'm not able to help you, but I'll say I'm in the same condition, so you're not alone.

I'm running a similar setup to yours, I have an Intel NUC DC3217IYE with a Core i3 3217U, and a Pioneer VSX-822-K connected via HDMI.

I didn't even think to check the resolution settings, but I have basically verified your problem. My system autodetects at 1920x1080p, and I was unable to get sound from my receiver no matter what I did. I even tried playing test sound files directly with aplay and my receiver acted as if nothing was there. After reading your post I tried setting my video to 1280x720p and sure enough I get sound. Fortunately for me this is a usable solution as I am connecting to a 1280x800 projector.

Thank you for your information, good luck finding a solution. If I spot something, that resolves the issue here I'll reply again.

I can confirm that HD audio is broken on my Sandy Bridge Core i3 system. It doesn't bitstream any more and LPCM outputs only stereo. Version 3.06 worked perfect. Please please please............if anyone has a copy of 3.06 for Intel 64bit, please let me have it so I can downgrade.

Still having issues here?

I'm planning on buying an Intel NUC DC3217IYE (i3) system myself and want to be sure HD audio works over HDMI...

When started this issue happing? With 3.2.1 or earlier versions too ?

Thank you.

It seems to be an issue with 3.2.x builds.

I can confirm this problem with Giada n20 with ION2 graphics. Reverting to version 3.1.7 restored sound. From now on, I'll switch off automatic updates!

No, I can see that 3.2.2 is dated October 1. The version I tested was a few days earlier.

I would test the new one and if the Failure still exists, post it in the 3.2.2 Release Thread with logs.

Hurray! Finally fixed my Audio problems from this thread :)

Indeed No audio at 1080p resolution. Changing to 1024x768 restores sound!!

Reverting to 3.1.7 fixed this so its an openelec problem.
