Hi,

I know my way around python, but am having zero luck getting a script to interact with the kodi in my OE distribution. Most of the documentation on using Python with kodi is outdated, but everything I have found shows that it still uses a module called xbmc (and xbmcgui, etc, ...).

I ssh into my OE machine as root, create a simple script using the "import xbmc" statement, and when I try to run it (just using "python ./test.py" at the prompt) I get an error that there is no such module.

If I change to "import kodi", then I don't get an error, but the kodi module doesn't seem to have any useful methods associated with it (I tried a couple simple methods like executebuiltin and getIPAddress, but no such methods exist for the kodi module).

The link here:
mirrors.kodi.tv/docs/python-docs/
suggests that my kodi (Helix-based) should come with a module called "xbmc" with many methods and classes, but I am not seeing it, and was wondering if perhaps this is not in the OE build.

I am happy to update to the latest OE if you really think that would help.

Thanks if you can shed some light on what I am missing here...
