hey guys i love the openelec program but i am having an issue that is driving me crazy i have my openelec box connected via ethernet cable to my billion 7800n router and then through that connected to my media file server which is just running windows 7 ultimate x64 and one minute it is working great and then it can be as simple as turning off and turning back on the box again or even going to start another video and the samba shares suddenly become unreachable and i either get Connection refused or whatever error indicating that the samba shares have gone and if i try to access them by removing that folder and adding them again when i select smb:// in the browse section my folders do not appear

i used to have to restart my server to get it to work again but today that hasn't even worked i have tried

settings all computers to static ip address
manually typing the network address in xbmc
removing and re-adding all shares set on server
i have tried manually networking folders instead of using Homegroup

and several other things

the funny thing about it is i can access those same share folders on my other windows 7 pc and if i go to system info in xbmc it says the internet is connected so i can get a internet connection and i can access the folders from another windows pc i just cannot access them from inside a openelec xbmc build either the stable build or a nightly build

anyone have any suggestions otherwise i will just have to go back to using windows and running xbmc on that which will suck as compare to openelec it is so slow and bloated

I came across something similar recently. In my case the version of the kernel I was using had a bug with the realtec network driver. You can see this in /var/log/messages as it comes up with frequent errors when transferring large files. In my case it only caused an issue when writing to Samba, so maybe it's not quite the same thing, but worth having a look.

that's interesting observation i have since switched my HTPC's back to using windows 7 and just changed the shell to boot up in xbmc instead of explorer.exe

i spent several days trying to fix it and was driving me nuts i eventually gave up

for all the die hard linux fans out there you still have to admit window is still a lot simpler to use and work with

i miss the fast bootup times but i would rather wait 1 minute instead of 25 seconds for the machine to boot than have to deal with whether or not the machine will decide to play anything when it does boot since going back to windows haven't had this issue i did once have the samba shares missing when adding a folder to sources but this was easily fixed by just manually typing the smb:// address in and it found the folders straight away

a shame though openelec is a great piece of software but just too many compatibility hiccups for me to use it exclusively

I too am having a similar problem.
Can anyone please help?

Seems a shame to ditch Openelec because of spotty network share recognition.

Thanks!

hi

I was too going to request news on any progress with this. If you haven't seen already there's the following post:

Troublesome SAMBA shares

however, on this alone I can't access my OPENELEC folders from my networked PC (via win7). It appeared as a computer a few moments ago but I downgraded from the 2.0 beta3 to beta2 (due to powerdown problems) and now it does not appear. It remains present as a 'media device' but this only allows streaming from existing OPENELEC files, not write access to its folders as a 'computer'.

Hi, here the problem is that when i try to write in ntfs partitions through samba i get an error: "Not enough disk space", when the disk has almost 1 TB of free space.

I'm connecting from an OSX computer.
