Let me start by saying that i understand the fact that Openelec is developped to create an easy to maintain and use HTPC.
But next to that its also a lot more snappy in usuage than XBMC-live.
Allmost everything i want in openelec can be done but im missing te ability to schedule some of the things.
There is this nice add-on: Rsync which i used daily in my previous setup. I had a scheduled job to do some syncing across multiple clients. But now i have execute this command daily by hand.
Scheduling can be very usefull, and will not confuse nor interfere with the end user experience, since you dont have to use it. But the more novice linux users can get a lot of bennefit from it.
Is it possible to add the Crontab functionality to Openelec?
Maybe im missing something. I've installed the most recent daily build i've found. "OpenELEC-ION.x86_64-devel-20111111140254-r8797.tar.bz2
But the cron daemon is not starting.
I've followed the link is this topic, in which Vpeter4 stated
"cron enabled in busybox
when init script first run folder is created /storage/.config/cron.sample
daemon starts only if folder exist /storage/.config/cron
this means nothing changed for other users - only little bigger busybox binary"
Which init script should i run?? Or should i just create a folder named cron in .config directory.
Or should i just create a folder named cron in .config directory.
yes it is. If there is no user config cron not start. Also one more problem usually if you use crontab -e command for put something to cron busybox crontab try to create that directory but busybox not build but fail because of can't find executable. I don't remember exactly. at the end you hafe to create that directory your self.
PS: did you build your self or you are useing builded openelec? Couse you have to build yourself for cron support.
