There's a thread on the xbmc forum about this device; somewhere in the hardware section.

forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?t=100885&highlight=raspberry

I might buy one, just because it's cheap. :-D

I did read that before posting here. I just don't think it is very informative...

According to the wiki (Raspberry Pi wiki) it should be available end of November and you purchase it from their website.

I hope it supports proper hardware decoding for non h.264 videos.
Otherwise I'd still prefer the neat box of the ATV2.

It's an interesting project for sure.

I am very excited about the opportunity to bring openelec to this platform. From what I gather, it is an ARM11 SOC. Woud this be able to run the ATV builds?

With such a low pricepoint and such efficient power utiliization, this would be my new favorite choice for media center frontends.

But I think XBMC doesn't run on ARM processors yet.

jdmpike, can you inform us when we can buy this device? I'm looking into it too for some "special" projects.

They have just produced 100 units for preliminary testing before they run the first batch of 10.000 units. I think they'll be ready to ship in the beginning of the new year as they have some testing to do before they run the batch.

Some of the XBMC devs have Raspberry Pi boards, and when Eden is launched there will be the first official ARM version of XBMC.

So I think it is reasonable to assume there will be some cheap ARM boxes running XBMC in the near future. Very exciting times, Atom/Ion boxes brought HTPC cost to $200 and under, I think ARM boxes will bring the price to under $100

Look at this lovely small PC

Broadcom BCM2835-chip 700MHz and 128MB or 256MB memory. It has network and HDMI but the really intresting part is it has hardware acceleration for 1080p. So I might be worth a look. It will beon the market for about 25 dollar
