I would like to replace one SD card (16 Gb) with another (8 Gb). What is the right process to do it to keep data, settings etc. unchanged?

(my OS is MacOS)

the best is to create a backup via OpenELECs backup function you find in the OpenELEC Settings addon, then backup your medias seperatly from /storage (or secod partition) - because they are not part of the backup process. Now do a a new install with the same OpenELEC release and restore the backup and medias. this should keep your actual config and settings
