OpenELEC 4.0.5 released

14 Jun 2014

The OpenELEC team is proud to announce OpenELEC 4.0.5.

This release includes some bugfixes, security fixes and improvements since OpenELEC-4.0.4 . Besides the usual bugfixes and package updates we updated OpenSSL to fix some security issues, updated Kernel to 3.14.7, added support for some more WLAN chipsets and updated the RaspberryPi firmware to include the last fixes and features.

OpenELEC-4.0.5 is now the next stable release, which is a bugfix and securityfix release of the OpenELEC-4.0 series.

How To Upgrade To OpenELEC 4.0 Release

If you are going to update from one of our older releases, we STRONGLY advise that you make a backup of your XBMC data and manual update . There was reports regarding new database versions, settings, addons and addon repos, which can cause issues if you are using updating from OpenELEC 3.2 or older. You can use our OpenELEC Settings addon if you are using OpenELEC-3.2 to backup your data and then reset it. If you are on an older build, you will need to do this manually:

mv /storage/.xbmc /storage/.xbmc-backup

Testing and Reporting

There has been many months of development and testing in the run-up to this releases, but like any major update there are a lot of changes. Unfortunately, we are unable to test every scenario on all hardware, so it’s possible you might pick up on an issue we may have missed (this is why we do beta tests). We would like anyone brave enough to test this release and report issues that they find either with OpenELEC or XBMC.

Please report any issues you encounter to our issue tracker on github and/or forum. Please follow our guidelines for submitting issues outlined here: https://github.com/OpenELEC/OpenELEC.tv/blob/master/CONTRIBUTING.md

Supported Platform Changes

The number of builds supported has simplified. As of OpenELEC 4.0, images will be provided for AppleTV, Generic (i386 and x86_64) and Raspberry Pi’s.
We have also recently added support for Solid-Run Cubox-I devices to OpenELEC. However, this support is still under active development. Given the fact that this code base is not yet stable, we will not be providing an image for Cubox-i devices with OpenELEC-4.0. Hopefully this will change in the future as support for the platform matures.

New and dropped builds in OpenELEC 4.0

We will no longer be supplying specific builds for Arctic MC, Fusion, Intel and Ion devices – support for all of these devices has been rolled into the Generic builds. If you are using one of these builds, you will need to migrate to the Generic builds. If you need to migrate from an older unsupported build, please follow these instructions:

from Version Old System/Build Architecture to Version
OpenELEC =< 3.0 ION i386 (with 32-bit capable hardware) Generic i386
OpenELEC=< 3.2 ION x86_64 (with 64-bit capable hardware) Generic x86_64
OpenELEC=< 3.0 Intel i386 (with 32-bit capable hardware) Generic i386
OpenELEC=< 3.2 Intel x86_64 (with 64-bit capable hardware) Generic x86_64
OpenELEC=< 3.2 Generic_OSS i386 (with 32-bit capable hardware) Generic i386
OpenELEC=< 3.2 Generic_OSS x86_64 (with 64-bit capable hardware) Generic x86_64
OpenELEC=< 3.0 Xtreamer Ultra 1/2 x86_64 Generic x86_64
OpenELEC=< 3.2  AMD Fusion x86_64 Generic x86_64
OpenELEC=< 3.2 Arctic_MC x86_64 Generic x86_64

Thank You!

We would like to thank our users, team members and partners for testing, reporting and fixing issues, creating how-to documents, developing new features, and their donations of hardware and funds to the project. We appreciate your continued support, without it we would not be able to continue.

closing the ticket because this is a bug/development issue tracker, support is provided via the forums

- Createlog say log-2014-06-23-18.38.26.zip, but we have 20:38
- Starting with LiveTV seems to work not like in 3.0
There i have to Activate Startup Windows to TV, but this Setting doesn't work on OE 4.0
Today i found another Setting acting similar like the old one: LiveTV Settings, Playback, Continue Last Channel on startup -> Yes.
Two Questions:
1. What Function does this Setting have for TV? abload.de/img/screenshot000xojpl.png
2. When i set this to Minimized abload.de/img/screenshot001y7j0b.png, then i have a Full LiveTV Screen in the Background
of the Home Window. Is this a Bug or is this acting like you wanted?

I have a new problem. When I start OE 4.0.5 and Live-TV (TVHeadend) and switch to next channel, after the 4th or 5th channel-schwitch I get the error message "TVheadend HTSP Client - no access".

I recognized that problem with 4.0.5, but going back to 4.0.3 and 4.0.0 now shows the same result. Never had that with 3.2.4. Is that only me ?

Problem Gelöst ! Es saß zwischen den Kopfhörern ! Sorry !!

Hello, I did a fresh 4.0.5 usb install everything installs well, the repos are downloading, but none of the add ons inside of the repos are downloading they just hang at 95 percent 0 percent.

even the add ons that are stocked/ loaded when you install xbmc aren't able to install

Is anyone else having these issues? it can't just be me because I tried it with different computers and different usb so the problem has to be in 4.0.5 release on the 1st gen apple tv.

@stasik: enable advanced settings mode (bottom left of the XBMC settings app) and then enable passthrough .. is probably the solution you're looking for

hi. i am glad to see the new releases released so often now. my system is an ion2 intel, and i was using the ion version of the distro, which was merged into generic version now. but the reason i got my device is the ability to decode dts hd master and true hd. so i tried and installed the 4.x version, but it can not bitstream hd audio formats anymore, not even plain dts. so i had to downgrade back to version 3. was i doing something wrong or the version 4 does not support bitstreaming on ion2 gpu?
thanks

Hello guys. First of all thank you for openelec. Now as for version 4.0.5 I have a problem with playing files over samba. Many won't start and when they do there is too much pausing and stattering. I have no idea why! I really want to use Gotham xbmc!
Still using version 3.2.4 free of any bugs!!
