OpenELEC 4.0.6 released

25 Jun 2014

The OpenELEC team is proud to announce OpenELEC 4.0.6.

This release includes some bugfixes, security fixes and improvements since OpenELEC-4.0.5 . Besides the usual bugfixes and package updates we fixed boot issues on some AMD mainboards, added support for some more Intel, AR3k and ATH6k Bluetooth and WLAN devices, updated Kernel to 3.14.8 and updated the RaspberryPi firmware to include the last fixes and features.

OpenELEC-4.0.6 is now the next stable release, which is a bugfix and securityfix release of the OpenELEC-4.0 series.

How To Upgrade To OpenELEC 4.0 Release

If you are going to update from one of our older releases, we STRONGLY advise that you make a backup of your XBMC data and manual update . There was reports regarding new database versions, settings, addons and addon repos, which can cause issues if you are using updating from OpenELEC 3.2 or older. You can use our OpenELEC Settings addon if you are using OpenELEC-3.2 to backup your data and then reset it. If you are on an older build, you will need to do this manually:

mv /storage/.xbmc /storage/.xbmc-backup

Testing and Reporting

There has been many months of development and testing in the run-up to this releases, but like any major update there are a lot of changes. Unfortunately, we are unable to test every scenario on all hardware, so it’s possible you might pick up on an issue we may have missed (this is why we do beta tests). We would like anyone brave enough to test this release and report issues that they find either with OpenELEC or XBMC.

Please report any issues you encounter to our issue tracker on github and/or forum. Please follow our guidelines for submitting issues outlined here: https://github.com/OpenELEC/OpenELEC.tv/blob/master/CONTRIBUTING.md

Supported Platform Changes

The number of builds supported has simplified. As of OpenELEC 4.0, images will be provided for AppleTV, Generic (i386 and x86_64) and Raspberry Pi’s.
We have also recently added support for Solid-Run Cubox-I devices to OpenELEC. However, this support is still under active development. Given the fact that this code base is not yet stable, we will not be providing an image for Cubox-i devices with OpenELEC-4.0. Hopefully this will change in the future as support for the platform matures.

New and dropped builds in OpenELEC 4.0

We will no longer be supplying specific builds for Arctic MC, Fusion, Intel and Ion devices – support for all of these devices has been rolled into the Generic builds. If you are using one of these builds, you will need to migrate to the Generic builds. If you need to migrate from an older unsupported build, please follow these instructions:

from Version Old System/Build Architecture to Version
OpenELEC =< 3.0 ION i386 (with 32-bit capable hardware) Generic i386
OpenELEC=< 3.2 ION x86_64 (with 64-bit capable hardware) Generic x86_64
OpenELEC=< 3.0 Intel i386 (with 32-bit capable hardware) Generic i386

OpenELEC=< 3.0 Xtreamer Ultra 1/2 x86_64 Generic x86_64
OpenELEC=< 3.2  AMD Fusion x86_64 Generic x86_64

Thank You!

We would like to thank our users, team members and partners for testing, reporting and fixing issues, creating how-to documents, developing new features, and their donations of hardware and funds to the project. We appreciate your continued support, without it we would not be able to continue.

Ok could be. Whenever I try to repro to grab a log file I can't.

My problem occurs when I launch a video via Yatze library and it started when I updated to 4.0.6. from 4.0.5.
The video starts playing on top of xbmc home screen (semi translarent) for a few second then freezes and becomes unresponsive. Audio goes on, although laggy.
First time I tried same thing happened 2x in a row (second time after I rebooted). But when I navigated to video on xbmc with remote, it started playing flawlessly.

Hope this helps.

That is strangle and likely a different issue. I don't run openelec on mi pi but have never had the video freeze and audio keep playing

Does this only affect Haswell GPU?

Unfortunately the freeze happens very frequently. I don't know if the debug log helps:

I already posted this once but here it is again....

bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=78960

Assuming this is your issue which is a common problem and has been for a bit of time you are stuck until Intel fixes the issue but if you have enough horsepower you can disable hardware acceleration and things should run fine.

[Yup, using Generic x86_64.
Just remember to enable Passthrough in XBMC settings under Audio. Select your receiver as the passthrough device, and tick the DTS-MA and TrueHD options below. Done.

thanks a lot, it worked like a charm. the first time i tried 4.x version i did not know i have to enable advanced mode in order to see the rest of the settings.

Like you say, it's likely an XBMC issue not OE.

Any idea where to start looking, other than creating a thread on the XBMC forum?

Is there a specific error message in a particular log file that would tell me which NFOs weren't reading properly, or why?

I believe that all of the NFOs that are effected were manually written for content that wouldn't exist in a scrapper. Such as DVD extras.

Anyone else has the problem that the master volume (alsamixer) is after every restart at ~70% ? Gone back to 4.0.5 immediately fixed it. Upgrading to 4.0.6 and again the same error. Also my analog soundcard has now another name. I tried to fixed it with the xbmc mixer addon but after every reboot it is the same problem.
4.0.5 = HD Audio Generic, ALC892 Analog
4.0.6 = HD Audio Generic (@:CARD=Generic,DEV=0),ALC892 Analog

Has anybody else had problems with .NFO files not reading properly?

Not seen any crashes, but I noticed on 4.0.2 that .nfo files (containing only the IMDB URL) sometimes failed to be read with the log message "No information found for item".
Fixed by deleting the .nfo file which forces the universal scraper to use the folder or file name instead.

At the time I thought there might be a temporary network issue connecting to imdb.com.

Like you say, it's likely an XBMC issue not OE.
I've not updated OE on this machine yet because it works well otherwise.

Any chance on (finally) getting some feedback on the sound issue?
