Progress on the Fusion project - XVBA support

In our latest development builds we have included some patches which should improve our Fusion builds but will also affect all other builds. We have included the latest work from FernetMenta and others.

This means on Fusion builds (or better; if you use a AMD GPU) XVBA Hardware decoding is used directly and not anymore via VAAPI. The patches are quite big and will change quite some things related to all other builds as well. Because of this we need your help for testing our actual development builds (release r9202 or later). Please report issues in this thread on our orum. If there are bigger problems we will remove these patches again, but we hope they are stable enough.

You can find the development build at the following location: http://sources.openelec.tv/tmp/image/openelec-eden

Please also keep on testing ION/Intel/Generic builds, there are some bugfixes included which improve these builds too (esp. stability changes for VDPAU)

There is still an unfortunate limitation with this platform:

x264 video encoded High@5.1 has artifacts that makes it unwatchable.

I know this is due to limitations of the driver and a seeming lack of interest in AMD's part, but it is nevertheless a significant strike against the platform as a whole.

Updated to 9280, all looks well.

Only major thing is still very high IDLE cpu in XBMC screens. up to 80%, while doing nothing at all.

Testing on Zotac AD10 with vertex 3 SSD and 4Gb.

Running Fusion X64-PVR rev 9280 on ASUS E35M1-PRO. Connected to TVserver Mediaportal, Cinergy PCI HD cards.
All is working stable. Except from some sudden reboots at PVR or EPG data loading and starting live TV.
The problem i have is that video quality at HD signal is not 100% already since start builds of XVBA .
Some white edges at fast movements.
Also running another set with Intel GM45 and crystalHD and not problems there with HD signals. Seems CrystalHD is only available until built R8871.

Once a while also a glitch at SD channels. It is already better then before.

p.s. want to join forum to put coment and help testing but for some reason new account reg is failing.

Keep up the good work to debug this openelec because it is better compared to all dif setups i have tested with XBMC under latest Linux distr. on Fusion.

ION2, i got the same machine as you. had to got back to r8797 because newest builds drops really more frames and single drop is usually 7+fps. also known ION bug with exiting from playing was more often and i had bad experience with streamed video, youtube especially. video was buffering a lot, streaming speed was low, but when i downloaded it speed was as it should.

    I guessed it. :)

But still, are you talking about ION1 or ION2?

Does something like XVBA exist also for Shuttle XS35GT(V2) devices that would increase performance?

more drops on ION than on pre r9202 builds, more 'back to menu after starting playback' events, i will test it further.

Ran this evening on Zotac AD02, so far flawless, ran 1080p Quantum of Solace Bluray, total of 22 frame drops although almost all caused at beginning or during me pausing and restarting (cups of tea don't make themselves!)

No visible problems, decoder confirmed as ff-h264-xvba.

    Keep up the great work!
