OpenELEC proudly presents "Njoy Live TV"

From today the Njoy Live TV application is available in the official XBMC add-on repository from version Eden Beta 3 and up.  The add-on makes it possible to watch directly live digital SD and HD payTV from your TV subscription into XBMC.

You need one of the N7 devices from Njoy Digital to use the app. (http://www.tv2lan.com) The devices are available for Digital Satellite and in a Digital Cable/Terrestrial unit. It has a card reader on board and a CI interface. Basically if your provider supports CI , then it works. ( For CI Plus there are some restrictions )

The app was originally developed by Njoy Digital for Boxee and now ported by the XBMC dev team for XBMC.

NJoy Addon

EPG and PVR applications are under development.

Now digital TV within XBMC is available for customers without linux skills (setting up TV Headend can be a nightmare). N7 works out of the box with an OpenELEC system and is the first result of the partnership between OpenELEC and Njoy Digital.

OpenELEC users will also benefit 20% discount on these state of the art network tuners (http://www.anyseedirect.eu).

    This Njoy device is fun.
Basically it will transform ur tv-signal into an http stream, or an uni/multi-cast stream.

You can have the device create an m3u playlist, which you can copy to an openelec folder and from there you can choose which stream to watch. Dead easy. (or you can use the Njoy plugin to do basically the same)

Must say though: the device is quite slow with flipping channels. (5 to 10 seconds is normal)

I'm using it in combination with Ziggo in the Netherlands.
The quaality is good and it does HD easilly.
But don't go for this solution if you want to flip channels.

Essentially you couldn't apply CI+ to a product like this because there is no end-point security. CI+ requires that there is essentially an unbroken encryption chain between the broadcaster and the display. The content is decrypted from the closed CA system and then re-wrapped with a new key set which is bound to the decoder. Take for example a DVR/PVR/DTR which supports CI+, if it records a programme then it records the content without the CA but with a unique key embedded in that box, the content can then only be decoded by that box and if you took the HDD out the content would be useless. The video is decrypted in protected memory, passed directly to the same devices video decoder (without being exposed in the clear) and output over HDMI to the TV (protected by HDCP).
CI+ is another kind of DRM for content. A raw MPEG-TS cannot be captured or handled by a product without the chain of trust.

Trust me, I know what I am talking about, I make my living in this world. Just happened past here and saw the question.

How does this Njoy tuner compare to the HDhomerun which also has an openelec addon and is basicly the samething for half the price.

Whats so special about this Njoy tuner?

CI Plus is NOT an encryption. CI plus is a specification. The encryption in Ziggo's case is Irdeto. CI Plus modules will only work in CI plus certified equipment and CI plus certified equipment will only work with CI plus modules. This has nothing to do with the smart card or encryption. So if the smartcard is working in , for example, alphacrypt, it works in a N7

Just to be sure, is the Njoy Live TV application also be supported by the (official) XBMC Android remote app?

Stefan: The channels which the N7 can play back on Ziggo are probably not by provider ciplus encrypted then. Doubtfully my CI+ CAM from my Swedish provider would decode a CI+ channel without a certified device.

I would probably be more clear of this "restriction" (i.e. non existing implementation).

CI plus is a combination between certified hardware and software. N7 , but also E7 and E30 Series are not CI Plus certified. However in some cases ( Ziggo netherlands / Italy and many more ) Anysee tuners are working fine already for more than 5 years. The credo is, If it works with an Alphacrypt, it works with an Any see.

What are the ciplus restrictions? Cannot seem to find the answers from looking at their web site :(
